This module is designed to enable you to develop the key critical thinking skills necessary for university study and beyond. Through a combination of lectures and small group seminars the class will discuss many of the key issues that underpin discussion of all academic disciplines. The lectures will introduce key themes and issues that enable students to make sense of the world in a critical fashion while the seminars will allow students to discuss these issues and engage with key readings each week. You are encouraged to apply these abstract concepts to your specific degree path. If you’d like to, you can do a one-year foundation course before you apply for an undergraduate degree.

In your first year, you will be introduced to the fundamental principles and techniques required to creatively explore fashion design and the associated technologies. My week starts by attending to my studio space, which it is a corner made up of three big whiteboards, a locker to secure my belongings and a table to work on. Having this area to work and do research for projects that I have been given, make me feel focused and productive.

The pressures on managers and leaders in today’s complex organisations are immense. The emphasis on performance, efficiency and effectiveness together with the global competition for managerial jobs places a premium on managerial and leadership skills. This module introduces some of the latest ideas in the field whilst simultaneously evaluating them from a practical, ethical and international perspective. Students will explore the role of power in organisations and critically evaluate how power and influence is exercised in the managerial role. The module is also aimed at helping students to develop some of the skills involved in managing and leading people, thereby cultivating the self-awareness that characterises outstanding managers and leaders.

Whilst students may understand several areas of marketing they need to be able to measure the return on investment. The plethora of marketing data available due to digital advances means this is an increasingly complex area of management. This module aims to develop understanding by introducing students to digital marketing analytics.

You’ll need to do as much work experience as possible during your degree and, even then, it’s common for fashion graduates to have to complete several internships before they land their first permanent job. Or you could work in advertising, marketing, public relations or events management within the fashion industry. Your first year will give you a broad introduction to your subject and start developing key technical skills. Your second year will then expand on the knowledge and skills you’ve gained so far and it’s likely that you’ll be given more project work.
